Five People Died in Odisha Due to Lightning Today
Bhubaneswar July 24 2025 – Five people lost their lives in different places of Odisha today after being struck by lightning during rainfall. The incidents took place in Dhenkanal Puri Keonjhar and Cuttack districts. Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms were reported in many parts of the state.
In Dhenkanal, two workers died while working in a field in the Mahulpada area. Two others were injured in the same incident and are now receiving treatment.
In Puri, a man died after being struck by lightning in a field near Delang town.
In Keonjhar, one person lost his life in Haladiapada village under Harichandanpur block. Another person was also injured there.
In Cuttack, a woman died in Kanjia village under Choudwar Brahmapur panchayat.
Local officials said all victims were given medical help quickly but they could not be saved.
Weather Warnings Issued by the Government
The India Meteorological Department said a low pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal which is bringing heavy rain and lightning. The weather office has warned of more heavy rainfall in districts like Dhenkanal Keonjhar Mayurbhanj Sundargarh and others in the next few days.
A red warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Orange and yellow warnings are given for several other districts. People are being advised to stay indoors during storms and follow safety tips.
Relief and Safety Measures
The state government has asked all district officers to remain alert. Rescue teams have been kept ready. The Special Relief Commissioner has also told officials to provide quick help to affected families.
The government is also giving money to the families of the victims as compensation. Each family will receive financial help to deal with the loss.
