Billionaire Adani Joins Devotees at Rath Yatra

PURI, ODISHA – Mr. Gautam Adani, one of India’s most well-known businessmen and the chairman of the Adani Group, made a special visit to the holy city of Puri on Tuesday. He came to take part in the world-famous Jagannath Rath Yatra, a grand festival of chariots.

On a day when millions of people gathered, Mr. Adani joined the sea of devotees to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath. Dressed in simple traditional attire, he was seen with folded hands, offering his prayers as the massive chariots were being prepared for their journey.

The Rath Yatra is one of the most important Hindu festivals. It celebrates the yearly journey of Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra, and his sister Devi Subhadra from their main temple to the Gundicha Temple, which is considered their aunt’s home.

Mr. Adani arrived in the morning and witnessed the ‘Pahandi’ ritual, where the idols of the gods are carried from the temple to the chariots in a grand procession. He watched in reverence as the huge, colorfully decorated chariots, named Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, and Darpadalana, stood ready for the devotees to pull.

Later, Mr. Adani shared his feelings on social media. In a post, he wrote, “Feeling truly blessed to witness the holy Rath Yatra in Puri. The energy and devotion of millions of people here are powerful and inspiring. It is a beautiful display of our rich culture and faith. May Lord Jagannath bless everyone with happiness and good health. Jai Jagannath!”

The visit was not just a personal one for Mr. Adani. It is also seen as an important gesture towards the state of Odisha, where his company, the Adani Group, has significant business interests. The Adani Group operates the large Dhamra Port in the state, which is a key hub for trade and shipping on India’s east coast. His presence at Odisha’s most important cultural event is seen by many as a way of showing respect and strengthening ties with the people and the state.

Despite his high-profile status, Mr. Adani’s visit was kept relatively simple. While there was security in place, he tried to blend in with the other pilgrims. The atmosphere in Puri was electric, filled with the sounds of bells, gongs, and chants of “Jai Jagannath.” People from all walks of life, from poor villagers to rich businessmen, come together for this festival, united by their shared faith.

Gautam Adani’s participation highlights how deep-rooted traditions and faith continue to be an important part of life in modern India, even for the country’s biggest business leaders. His visit was a moment where the worlds of business and spirituality met on the holy streets of Puri.
